Group Spiritual Direction
Group spiritual direction is a wonderful way to introduce people to the concept of spiritual direction. A committed group gathers together regularly with the purpose of assisting one another in becoming more aware of God’s presence in all areas of life. The reasons to participate in such a group are similar to the reasons why we enter into any form of spiritual direction.
As the group’s spiritual director, I will provide materials and assist with fostering an environment of whole-hearted participation, genuine honesty, and healthy listening. Typically, I travel to where the established group will meet. A group should consist of at least three members and should not exceed five members. The meeting and the group is best served if each session lasts between two or two and one-half hours. Groups usually meet once a month, but some groups meet more often than that. The parameters of the group can be discussed prior to the first session together.
Quiet Days (one day retreat)
A quiet day, or one day retreat, is an invitation to step away from your daily tasks and routines and enter into a time of prayer and reflection. These days are set apart, and a sacred space is created for you to find time with God. I offer quiet days at my home two to four times per year. I limit the number of people so that there is plenty of room to spread out and be alone with God. If you are interested in one of these quiet days, you can learn more or contact me below.

I also offer quiet days online via Zoom. Similar to the traditional quiet days, these events take place using the Zoom application.

If you are interested in hosting a quiet day in your own home or designated space and desire a spiritual director to attend and bring the materials for the session, please feel free to contact me to discuss this option.
Individual Spiritual Direction
Most often, a spiritual direction session is between two people—the spiritual director and the person seeking direction (directee). These sessions usually last around one hour, and they can take place in person (live) or via Zoom. Sessions usually occur once a month, but there are times when you may wish to meet more frequently or for longer than one hour. This can be arranged as long as we schedule in advance.

In person sessions typically take place in my home office, but they can take place in a quiet environment outside of my home. A neutral, quiet meeting place can be considered and decided upon before our first session.

Zoom sessions have become quite a popular option since 2020. For those who live a distance from me (including out-of-state folks), this may be the optimal way to meet.
Visio Divina
The phrase is translated as “divine seeing”. Visio Divina shares roots with the ancient practice of Lectio Divina. (Lectio Divina calls for a slow, careful interaction with scripture through meditation and prayer, allowing a word or phrase to rise in one's consciousness, a holy word to be savored and examined.) Similarly, Visio Divina invites one to encounter the Divine through images. It invites us to see deeply, beyond first and second impressions, below initial ideas, judgments, or understandings.

The Biblical scriptures contain many images, metaphors, and poetic language. God, as Creator, gave us colors, textures, shapes, images, and He can speak to us through these visual dimensions. More importantly, when we enter into a time of Visio Divina, we can prayerfully experience God through art.
